Lane Olive
Lane Olive serves as the Varsity Head Baseball Coach at Apex High School, returning to lead the program where his playing career began. An Apex native, Coach Olive played catcher at Apex High School before continuing his baseball career at Wingate University and Barton College as a catcher and designated hitter. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education from Barton College and maintains CPR and First Aid certification.
Coach Olive’s path to coaching was shaped by his love for the game and the perspective gained through overcoming college injuries. His coaching style is best described as old-school and blue-collar, emphasizing toughness, accountability, and earning everything through consistent effort. Named Head Varsity Baseball Coach at just 23 years old, Coach Olive was able to immediately connect with his players, blending relatability with high expectations and a strong respect for the game.
Before and during his time at Apex, Coach Olive has served as a showcase coach with The Performance Academy and as an assistant coach at Clayton High School. Under his leadership, the Apex baseball program advanced to the fourth round of the state playoffs, and he was nominated for Region 3 Coach of the Year in 2022. Apex is home for Coach Olive, and he takes great pride in representing the community. Outside of baseball, he enjoys spending time with his two sons and hunting. A sixth-generation farmer and business owner, he currently operates a beef cattle and grain/hay farm, reflecting the same work ethic and commitment he brings to the baseball program.
