2023 Class 3A State Champions

In a rematch of the 2022 State Championship, the Chargers were once again up against the Crooked Oak Roughnecks for a shot at the title.  The scoring opened in the first half when Tucker Austin '25 took a through ball and tapped it around the Roughneck goalkeeper to put the Chargers on top 1-0 shortly before a lightning delay stalled play for close to an hour.  After play resumed, the next 35 minutes were dominated by the Roughnecks, as they scored twice to take a 2-1 lead with just over 29 minutes to go in the game.  During the next five minutes, the play was furious by the Chargers, resulting in an aired through ball by Will Mattocks '24 to Tucker Austin '25, which was then chipped over the GK by Austin and into the back of the net for a 2-2 tie, where the game stayed for just under 20 minutes.  After a missed volley by Crooked Oak around the 75th minute of the game, Charger GK Henry Winland '26 booted the ball toward midfield and it was ushered out by a Crooked Oak defender.  While Crooked Oak retreated into position, Barrett Travis '25 sprinted to the ball and threw it over the Crooked Oak defense to a streaking Tucker Austin who ushered the ball toward the end line, drew out the Crooked Oak GK, and played the ball across the front of the goal to a wide-open Noah Ragozzino '26 who placed it squarely into the netting for the decisive goal in an eventual 3-2 Charger victory!
