Sean Culnan
Sean Culnan is a business owner and philanthropist, finding strength not only in lifting weights but in giving back to his community. Culnan graduated from Colonie Central High School in 1985 and continued his education at Hudson Valley Community College. In the years that followed, he founded his own insurance agency with offices in Troy and Hoosick Falls.
For more than 30 years, Culnan has competed in strength athletics. He’s a 2018 NYS Strength and Power Hall of Fame inductee. His best competitive lifts are 821lb squat, 573lb bench and 835lb deadlift.
Culnan and his wife founded the Zachary Culnan Memorial Fund, in honor of their late son Zachary, and each year run the Culnan’s King of the Deadlift event. It’s a weightlifting event that raises money for low-income young people to be able to participate in activities of their choice. Over the past eight years, the event has raised over $100,000 for the community.
