After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Hartwick College, Bruce Leland went on to get his Ph.D. at Rutgers University. A professor at Western Illinois University, he has been acting chair of the English Department and director of the Writing Program.

He has published three textbooks and many articles. He has also served for years on the Board of Directors for Macomb Community Theatre.
