Gwen Yale
Gwendolyn Yale serves as the Head Varsity Tennis Coach at Apex High School, bringing enthusiasm, care, and a strong appreciation for team culture to the Cougar program. Originally from Ambler, Pennsylvania, Coach Yale played tennis all four years of high school and later competed in Ultimate Frisbee at the collegiate club level. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in English and Creative Writing and a Master’s degree in Library Science from UNC, and serves Apex High School as a school librarian. She maintains her teaching license and CPR certification.
Coach Yale stepped into coaching out of a desire to give back to the sport that created some of her most meaningful high school memories. When the Apex tennis program faced uncertainty, she answered the call, committed to building a positive and supportive environment for student-athletes. Her coaching philosophy centers on fostering a welcoming team culture where athletes encourage one another, grow in confidence, and develop both as players and as students.
Under Coach Yale’s leadership, the Apex tennis program has experienced continued postseason success, with the Spring and Fall 2024 teams advancing to multiple rounds of the state playoffs and the Spring 2025 team reaching the first round. What she enjoys most about coaching is building connections with student-athletes and watching them grow through their shared experiences. Outside of tennis, Coach Yale enjoys spending time with her cats, playing disc golf, and reading. A fun fact—she has a professional athlete in her family.
