Sharon Landau, a Class of 1986 graduate, is one of the most decorated athletes to ever play for the Rye Neck Panthers. Landau was a remarkable Field Hockey player that experienced success at Rye Neck and at the national level. This inductee was the captain of her team during her time with the varsity squad, setting school records and national records. To this day, Landau still holds the school records for most goals in a single game, 10 and most career goals in four years with 174 goals. At the time, Landauβs career goal mark of 174 goals in four years broke the National High School Career Scoring Record.
Landau was well recognized for her talents within the high school athletics community and was a four-time All-League Player, three-time All-County Player, and three-time All-Section Player. She was named Most Outstanding HS Athlete in Westchester County, named the New York Daily News Player on two occasions, was a ConEd Award recipient, and Red Klein Memorial Scholarship winner.
Landau pursued Field Hockey outside of the Rye Neck community as well. During the offseason, she would play for the Empire State Team, which she was a member of for two seasons. She would go on to be named the Team MVP during both of those seasons and Team MIP during one of those seasons. Landau made her way to the national spotlight as well becoming a Junior Olympian and was invited to Olympic Training Camp for three years.
