Mr. Petrie, a standout basketball player, graduated from Bellows High School in 1951. He built an impressive resume during his time here on the hardwood. Mr. Petrie served as Team Captain while scoring over 1,000 points in his career, was a two-time All-Westchester County selection and led the Panthers to the Southern Westchester Interscholastic Athletic Championships in 1950 and 1951 as well as the Class C Open County Championship in 1950. The Bellows Gymnasium would be packed with fans to watch βPistol Pete'sβ high scoring performances. In a game during his senior year against visiting Pleasantville, Ed turned in a 51 point performance with 40 of them coming in the first half!
Mr. Petrie continued his playing career at Seton Hall University on a basketball scholarship. He led the Pirates to the National Invitational Tournament (more commonly known today as the N.I.T.) in 1955 and 1956 and was selected to the All-Metropolitan Team. He was drafted into the NBA by the New York Knicks and went on to play several years of professional basketball. Mr. Petrie is a member of the Seton Hall Athletic Hall of Fame, the Westchester County Athletic Hall of Fame, the New York State Basketball Hall of Fame and now, a member of the Rye Neck Athletic Hall of Fame.
