Jack Hasley Sr. was a coach and athletic director at Rye Neck, then known as Bellows High, from 1943 through 1966. During his tenure as a coach at Rye Neck, Mr. Hasley led the boys soccer, basketball and track teams to championship titles. In basketball, he coached All-American Ed Petrie, who later played in the NBA. He was also honored with Westchester County Coach of the Year awards in both soccer and basketball.
As an athletic director, Mr. Hasley was instrumental in bringing key sports to Rye Neck. He brought boys soccer, a sport that few schools in the section sponsored, to the school. Field hockey also had its start at Rye Neck during Mr. Hasleyβs tenure. Both teams saw instant success and have continued the winning traditions first instilled by Mr. Hasley.
Mr. Hasleyβs impact in athletics extended beyond Rye Neck in many areas, including forming equitable athletic leagues across the county. He also held key roles in the Southern Westchester Interscholastic Athletic Conference, the Central Westchester League and the Westchester Soccer Coaches Association.
He is a man who not only propelled Rye Neck into the realm of highly competitive athletics, but also served as a catalyst for the expansion of Section I athletics.
