2025 Coach

Paul Wackerly served as the head coach of Hoover High School’s girls basketball program from 1996–2010, guiding the Vikings through one of the most successful eras in program history.

Under Wackerly’s leadership, Hoover captured the 2002 Division I State Championship, the first in program history, and earned a Regional Championship that same year. His teams made four Elite Eight appearances (2002, 2003, 2006, 2007), reached the Sweet Sixteen five times, and won five District Championships. In addition, Hoover claimed eight Sectional Championships and eight Federal League titles during his tenure, while producing 16 All-Ohio selections and 29 student-athletes who went on to earn college scholarships.

Wackerly’s coaching excellence was recognized through numerous honors, including Associated Press Ohio Coach of the Year (2002), Canton Repository Coach of the Year (2000, 2002, 2003), Stark County Coach of the Year (2000, 2002), Federal League Coach of the Year six times, District IV Coach of the Year three times, and Northeast Inland Coach of the Year three times.

Outside of coaching, Wackerly has enjoyed a successful career as Used Trailer Manager at East Manufacturing. He currently resides in Canton. His son, Bret, and daughter-in-law, Kristen, live in North Canton with their children.
