Brett Wackerly is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Hoover High School Boys Basketball history. Upon graduation, he held 16 school records simultaneously, including career points (1,041), career assists (350), career three-pointers, career steals, and single-game marks of 45 points, 17 field goals, 9 three-pointers, and 14 assists. A two-time First Team All-Ohio selection, Brett accomplished a feat unmatched in Stark County history by being named Stark County Player of the Year in consecutive seasons. He also earned back-to-back Federal League Player of the Year, District IV Player of the Year, and Northeast Inland Player of the Year honors. His remarkable senior season also included selection to the prestigious Ohio North-South All-Star Game and recognition as the only McDonald’s All-American nominee in Hoover basketball history.

Brett’s leadership helped define one of the most successful eras in Hoover basketball. The Vikings posted an incredible 61-6 record during his three varsity seasons, including a perfect 20-0 junior season as the No. 1-ranked Division I team in Ohio. During Brett’s career, the Vikings were also a perfect 44-0 at home, never losing a game on their home court.

Brett continued his basketball career at the collegiate level, initially earning a full Division I basketball scholarship before transferring to Ashland University, where he continued to distinguish himself as an outstanding collegiate point guard.

From his record-setting individual performances to the extraordinary team success he helped lead, Brett’s accomplishments, leadership, and impact on Hoover Basketball continue to represent a remarkable chapter in the program’s history. His legacy and achievements continue to set a standard for future generations of Vikings.
