2025 Coach

Randy Montgomery served as head boys basketball coach at Hoover High School from 2002 to 2014, leading the program to record success. Under his leadership, Hoover was named the DI AP Poll State Champions in 2004 with an undefeated 20–0 season, three Federal League Championships (2003, 2004, 2009), and two District Championships (2009, 2013). His teams won 39 of 40 regular season games between 2002 and 2004 and averaged 17 wins per season during his 12-year tenure. Montgomery compiled a 206–69 record at Hoover, becoming the program’s all-time wins leader.
Across his 35-year coaching career, Montgomery achieved 600 wins against 205 losses, ranking 23rd in all-time wins in Ohio with a career winning percentage of 74%, fourth-best in state history. He guided two teams to the Final Four (1988, 1991 at Triway), captured three AP State Championships (1999, 2000, 2005), seven District Championships, and 16 League Championships. He remains the all-time career wins leader at both Triway (342 wins) and Hoover (206 wins).
His coaching excellence has been recognized with numerous honors, including Ohio Coach of the Year (1991, 2000, 2005), District Coach of the Year (2003, 2004, 2009, 2013), and Federal League Coach of the Year (2003, 2004, 2009). He was selected to coach the Ohio vs. Kentucky All-Star Game in 2005 and led Team Ohio High School All-Stars internationally in Italy from 2016–2020.
In recognition of his career, Coach Montgomery was inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2020 and the Wayne County Sports Hall of Fame.
A graduate of Salem High School (1973), Montgomery is a retired high school guidance counselor and currently resides in North Canton with his wife, Becky. They have three daughters: Annie, Erin, and Leigh.
