2014 1982 Track & Field

Janet (Baughman) Peare of the Class of 1982, was the recipient of 9 varsity letters. At that time, the 9th grade girls had to compete on junior high or freshman teams. They were not allowed to play on JV or Varsity, so she missed out on an entire year of competition.

Janet's achievements are as follows: Volleyball- three year letterman; Basketball- three year letterman, 3 year starter, co-captain senior year, 2nd team All-League senior year, Honorable Mention All-League junior year. During her senior year, Hoover won the Federal League. It was the first Hoover Girls' basketball title; Track- competed in the 100, 200, 400, and long jump, still holds the school record, 7 time Federal League Champion, 7 time District Champion, 2 time Regional Champion. Janet qualified to the State Meet all three years. In 10th grade, she received 2nd in the long jump and 9th in the 200 meters. In 11th grade, she received 4th in the 400 meters. In 12th grade, she was the State Champion in the 400 meters and 3rd in the long jump.

Janet competed for Kent State for 2 years. At the time, she held the school records for the indoor and outdoor 400 meters and the sprint medley relay. After her sophomore year, she transferred to OSU and graduated with a teaching degree. She taught social studies/ reading for 17 yeas. During that time, she coached varsity volleyball, middle school and high school track, and high school cross country.

Janet has been a principal for the last 6 years and is the current Principal at the Freshman Academy in the Canton City Schools. She is a proud mother of three Viking athletes.
