Coach Roger Viscounte is being inducted into the Hoover Athletic Hall of Fame as a distinguished Contributor to Hoover Athletics—a recognition that reflects not only his remarkable coaching achievements, but the profound impact he made on generations of Viking student‑athletes. As Hoover’s Associate Head Football Coach and Defensive Coordinator for 14 seasons, Viscounte crafted defenses known for discipline, toughness, and unmatched preparation. His units produced an extraordinary 52 shutouts, including seven in 1979, a feat that still stands as both a school record and a Stark County record. His players knew he demanded intensity and commitment, but they also knew he cared deeply about their growth on and off the field.

Across 38 years of varsity football coaching in Stark County, Viscounte became a respected mentor and leader throughout the region. He was one of the founders of the Stark County Coaches Association, helping build a collaborative coaching community that strengthened football across the county. His contributions extended beyond the gridiron as well—serving as the 1965 Hoover Wrestling Assistant Coach during the program’s only state championship season, further cementing his legacy as a multi‑sport supporter of Hoover excellence.
