Charlie is a 1976 Hoover graduate who was a multi-sport athlete that excelled in basketball and football. As a three-year starter in basketball, he was awarded the defensive MVP in 1975 and 1976. However, Charlie's greatest success was accomplished on the football field. He was a 3-year letter winner and 2-year starter at halfback. Charlie won numerous awards in 1975: Akron Beacon Journal First Team All-Federal League for offense and defense, WHBC All-County Offense, WHBC All-County MVP runner-up, All-District Honors, All-State Honorable Mention, team Co-Captain, football team Co-MVP, member of the 1975 undefeated (10-0) team, and a member of the prestigious Big 33 All-Star Game in 1976.

Upon high school graduation, Charlie spent the next two years playing football for the US Naval Academy. In 1978, he earned a letter and played in the Inaugural Holiday Bowl. The following year, Charlie transferred to Kent State University and was voted as a tri-captain, a two-time First Team ALl-MAC selection, Third Team All-American and the 1981 KSU Football MVP. 

In 1982, Charlie played pro football for the Ottawa Roughriders of the CFL and the Birmingham Stallions of the USFL. He earned First Team Strong Safety honors in the USFL. Charlie was inducted into the Kent State Athletic Hall of fame in 1996; was selected to the Repository All-Decade Defensive Team in 2009 and the Canton Repository High School Top 10 Icon.

His wife Tam (Morath) is a Hoover graduate as well as his 3 children. Charlie is currently the owner of RTM Technologies.
