2016 1982 Wrestling

Chris "CJ" Mears graduated from Hoover High School in 1982. The former Clearmount Comet grew up to become one of Stark County's outstanding wrestlers in the 1980's. CJ was a 3-year letter winner, he was selected to the All-Federal League Team 3 times and the All-County Team 3 times. He was the County MVP 2 times.

During his junior year he placed 3rd at the State Wrestling Championships. In 1982, CJ became a State Champion and he led the Hoover Wrestling team to a Federal League Team Championship, a District Team Championship, and a 2nd place team finish at the State Championship Tournament.

CJ capped off his senior season with a school record of most wins in a season with 52 wins and he earned the North Canton Sideliners Outstanding Wrestler Award for the second year in a row. He continued his wrestling career at Lehigh University and became a 2-time NCAA National Tournament qualifier. CJ is currently a software consultant.
