2015 1969 Track & Field

• Attended Portage St. Elementary, Clearmont Elementary, North Canton Jr. High, and Hoover High School, graduating in 1969.
• Played fast pitch softball for North Canton Merchant’s team from 1964-1966 (13-15 yr. old)
• Participated in first track meet in North Canton Jr. Champ Meet, June 1965 – Paul McDonald,
Hoover High boys track coach, held 2 week clinic for kids to prepare. Also participated in the State
Jr. Champ meet. (summer after 8th grade)
• Freshman year (1966) – Competed in Stark County HS meet – May 1966 – won 50 yd and Long
Jump. Again competed in local and state Jr. Champ meets. Joined the Canton Track Club in
summer of 1966, coached by Bruce Shelley.
• Sophomore year (1967) – Competed in Start County HS Meet – won 440yd in 58.5. Won AAU
National Championship 14-17 yr Division in 880 yd in 2:13.6 (meet record), placed 5th in 800 in AAU National Championships – Women’s Division (2:10.3). Placed 4th in 800m – 2:08.9 in Pan American Trials.
• Junior year (1968) Competed in Stark County HS meet – won 440yd in 56.6.

Won AAU National Championships – 14-17 yr. Division in 440 yd. (54.4) and tied for 1st in 880 yd. Placed 4th in 400m (54.6) at AAU National Championships – Women’s Division. Participated in Olympic Trials – 4th 400m – 54.8, chosen as alternate for Olympic team. Trained with Olympic team for 2 weeks in Los Alamos, NM.
• Senior year (1969) Finished 2nd in 800m at AAU National Championships – Women’s Division. Selected to National team. Competed in USA vs USSR vs British Commonwealth Games. Traveled to Europe and competed in West Germany, England, Norway, & Poland. Ran 2:04.5 for 800m for best time. Also competed in Pacific Conference Games in Japan, running both the 400m and 800m.
