Graduated from North Canton High School 1948.
High School Activities: Lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. Co-Captain of football team his senior year - this was the first undefeated team in the high school history 9-0-1 - the tie was with Louisville.
All Metro League 1947. The basketball team his senior year went to State Championships in Columbus but were defeated the first game. President of Junior Class. Member of Student Council. Member of Senior Scholarship which is now called National Honor Society.

College: Colgate University, Hamilton New York. Lettered in football four years. Captain of the team his senior year. Selected to Associated Press All-East team his senior year. President of Junior Class. Member of Konosioni Senior Honor Society. Listed in “Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges & Universities”.

Member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity - officer junior and senior year.
Married to Jean Allen in 1952
Children - Paula Merten, David Owens, Scott Owens and Mark Owens. 9 grandchildren

Military: Captain United States Marine Corps. Was in first class of marines on the east coast to graduate from the United States Navy Underwater Demolition School (UDT).
