Steve Schick was one of the most versatile and accomplished athletes of his era at Hoover High School, excelling in football, basketball, track, and baseball. He earned varsity letters in all four sports and, by the time of his graduation, held 11 school records.
As a wide receiver, Schick was a dominant force on the football field. He earned First Team All-Federal League, All-County, All-District, and All-Ohio honors as a senior (1984) and was named the Inland District Offensive Player of the Year. He set multiple Hoover receiving records, including most catches in a season and career, as well as most receiving yards in a season and career. His leadership helped guide Hoover to a Federal League Championship and the 1984 State Championship Game, where the Vikings finished as runner-up. His #29 jersey was retired for several years in recognition of his impact.
In basketball, Schick was equally outstanding, earning multiple All-Federal and All-County honors while setting school records for assists, steals, and single-game performance milestones. As point guard, he led Hoover to the State Final Four in 1985.
In track, Schick broke the school high jump record (6’4”) and set a school mark in the 4x400 meter relay. He was an All-Federal League performer in track and contributed as a multi-sport letterman throughout his high school career.
Following high school, Schick earned a full athletic scholarship to Ohio University in football (1985), playing in three games before redshirting. He later transitioned to basketball, making the Wright State University basketball team in 1986–87 before a serious hip injury ended his collegiate career. He went on to graduate from the University of Akron with a degree in Accounting.
Professionally, Schick built a successful career in business and currently manages a sales team in the Eastern U.S. for Donnelley Financial Solutions.
He resides in North Canton with his wife, Cathy (Hoover Class of 1985). They have three children: Ian (33), Evan (30), and Abby (26).
