Bill was the father of Ithaca Wrestling. That is undisputed. He was main fulcrum at Ithaca High School, where he worked in conjunction with the official head coaches for many years, developing national-caliber talent. He also assisted wrestlers in getting scholarships and instilled the principles of hard work leading to success. The wrestlers revered him. He was a genius at preparing them, developing their strengths, analyzing weaknesses and working to correct them. He played a major role in developing such national superstars as Frank Bettucci and Dave Auble. There were 65 Section IV champions assisted by Bill. Many went on to wrestle in college and some became very successful coaches. His success drove other Section IV programs to improve.

From Ithaca's first competitive year in 1946 through 1960, Bill assisted three coaches in achieving a record of over 135 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie, a record unequaled in Ithaca High School Sports of the time. This record included 13 consecutive Section IV Championships.

Bill frequently (at his own expense) would transport Ithaca High School wrestlers to National Athletic Amateur Union (AAU) tournaments. In 1955, Bill took four Ithaca High School wrestlers to an AAU event in Long Island where all four placed.

Bill never sought attention or recognition for his efforts, but went about his passion quietly and consistently achieving success year after year. Ithaca is forever grateful that he came our way.

Bill's awards include: The National Wrestling Hall of Fame, New York State Wrestling Hall of Fame, New York State Wrestling Coaches Association honors and the gratitude of all "his wrestlers" and the worldwide wrestling community.
