Charles "Cookie" Cook excelled in basketball for Ithaca High. He led the Southern Tier Conference in rebounding in 2 seasons, and held the IHS rebounding record upon graduating. He clinched the 1959 Section IV crown in Barton Hall for the Little Red by making 2 foul shots in the last 4 seconds against Johnson City. He was selected by the coaches for the conference all-star team. In the late 1960's Cookie became the first African-American sports announcer for major college play when he began announcing Cornell Basketball games for WHCU radio. He was inducted into the Section IV Hall of Fame in 1996.
