Ed played varsity baseball for three seasons, varsity football 3 seasons, and varsity basketball one season. He was a three year starter and All-STAC at shortstop for 3 seasons. He hit .583 his junior year, and won the STAC championship his senior year, beating JC 2-1. He played varsity football as a freshman starting all 8 games at quarterback. Ed went on to attend Auburn U. in 1977-78 playing varsity baseball, and later transferred to Cortland State in 1979. He was All-SUNYAC his junior and senior years at third base, and won the SUNYAC championship his senior year. At Lansing he was the Director of Athletics from 1996-2008, and he coached football and baseball, accumulating 496 wins in baseball. He became a member of the Lansing Hall of Fame in 2011. Returning to his alma mater he coached football from 2008-2011 and was the Director of Athletics from 2009-2011.
