Bob Franciamone was a standout in wrestling at Ithaca High and Ithaca College. At IHS, he won Section IV championships in his sophomore, junior, and senior years. There was no state tournament then, but Bob won championships at the prestigious Windsor and Canton tournaments, establishing him as a premier wrestler in the State. He won the team's Outstanding Wrestler Award in his junior and senior years, and in his senior year was student body president as well.

At Ithaca College, Bob won 44 championships in his junior and senior seasons, was captain of the team in both those years, and graduated cum laude. Since 1981, Ithaca College has annually presented to one of its wrestlers the "Bob Franciamone Most Team Points Award".

Bob was the wrestling coach for Paul Smith's College until his retirement in 1997, and during his tenure also served as director of physical education and as athletic director. He was inducted into the Section IV Hall of Fame in 1984.
