Coach Joe Moresco attended high school in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, graduating in 1944. After two years in the army he attended Mansfield State Teachers College, where he played football, basketball, and baseball. After post-graduate studies at Alfred University, Coach Moresco began his coaching and teaching career at Canisteo Central School in 1951. He came to Ithaca High in 1956. He taught math and later became a guidance counselor. He was the varsity baseball coach for ten years, and was the varsity football coach for 28 years, the longest tenure in Ithaca High history. Coach Moresco's football teams compiled a record of 141-81-14. From 1968 through 1972, the football teams were 41-1-1, including undefeated STAC championship teams in 1969 through 1972 and the State championship team in 1970. In 2000 the School Board named the football stadium in Coach Moresco's honor. He is a member of the Mansfield State and Section IV Halls of Fame.
