Jim Armstrong was a standout in three sports, soccer, hockey, and baseball. He led Ithaca High hockey teams to Section III championships in '75 and '76. In his senior season he was named Section III Player of the Year and an honorable mention high school all-American. He started for 2 years for the Little Red soccer and baseball teams, and was the leading hitter in the STAC with .517 average his senior year.

Jim attended Northwood Prep School for one year, setting a school record in hockey by scoring 64 points (36 goals, 28 assists). He then played hockey for Clarkson University for 4 years, and upon his graduation ranked 11th in all-time scoring at Clarkson. He was an 11th round draft pick by the Los Angeles Kings of the NHL. He played with the USA National Hockey team in international competition, and played professionally for the New Haven Knighthawks.

Since 1983, Jim has been coaching hockey at the collegiate and high school levels. In the past 15 years he has served as head coach for the Skaneateles, Webster, and Canandaigua high schools.
