John Stone played football, basketball, and baseball. In football, he led the league in passing in 1959. In basketball, he was captain and leading scorer on the 1959 Section IV championship team, and was selected for the Binghamton Press league all-star team. He pitched and played center field for the baseball team, and was co-captain of the 1959 league championship team. He was head coach of the boys varsity basketball team from 1982 to 1993, leading the team to 3 league championships, 1 regional championship, and 1 final four playoff finish. At the conclusion of the 1991-1992 season, he was named coach of the year by the Ithaca Journal, the Binghamton Press, and the New York State Basketball Coaches Association. He is a member of the Section IV Hall of Fame.
