John Chapman won 10 letters playing football, basketball, and baseball, he was an all-league selection at fullback his senior year. He was a starting member of the 1949 and 1950 Ithaca High basketball teams, which won 37 straight games and consecutive Section IV Titles, and was named to the all-conference team his senior year. He was the starting catcher for the baseball team, and was co-captain his senior year.
