Gordon Myer

Inducted January 27, 2006

Gordon Myer coached in the school district for 45 years, including baseball, softball, wrestling, and tennis. He was the JV baseball coach for 18 seasons, and was the girls varsity tennis coach for 23 seasons. His girls tennis teams compiled a record of 235-89, won 5 STAC championships, 6 Division I championships, and 4 Section IV championships. Coach Myer's tennis teams dominated the STAC during the '90's. They won 30 consecutive matches in '91-'92, and were 53-1 from '91-'94. Coach Myer's tennis players qualified for the State tournament in either singles or doubles at least 18 times, and twice (in '91 and '96) it was Ithaca vs. Ithaca in the Section IV doubles finals. Key to the great success of the doubles teams was Coach Myer's use of the "I" formation.

In addition to his coaching activities, Coach Myer was long the director of the Kiwanis summer baseball program, director of the Arts & Recreation Summer Camp, and a counselor in art, archery, and tennis at Stewart Park Day Camp. He retired from teaching in 1995 after 39 years with the district, and retired from coaching in 2001.
