Steve played football from 1967 to 1970. He was twice named to the all-conference team on both offense and defense and Player of the Year by the Binghamton Evening Press. He led Ithaca to two undefeated seasons with state rankings of 2nd in 1969 and 1st in 1970. He was named N.Y.S. Player of the Year and 1st team All-American by Scholastic Magazine. Steve set records for most touchdowns in a game (6), season (28) and career (62). He holds rushing records for most yards in a game (302), season (1298) and career (3476). His jersey number 32 was retired in 1970. He played two years for Syracuse University as a starting fullback, and was inducted into the Section IV Hall of Fame in 1982.
