Steve Shippos was captain and all-conference in football, a sectional champion in wrestling, and a sectional runner-up as a shot-putter for the track team. He attended Iowa State, where he qualified for the NCAA wrestling tournament 3 times. In 1966 he was Big 8 wrestling champion and received all-American honors. After completing college, he began teaching and coaching at Baldwin High school on Long Island, where he coached wrestling for 34 years, producing 28 sectional champs, and 1 national high school champ, his teams won 5 Section VIII championships. He was twice named Section VIII coach of the year. He is a member of the Section IV hall of fame.
