Brooks played lacrosse from 1969 to 1974 holding the school scoring record. His team placed second in the Upstate Tournament. He was an All-American at Farmingdale Community College and the University of Massachusetts where he also held the school scoring record. Brooks was selected to represent the United States in the World Lacrosse Tournament in 1982 and was the most valuable player on the All-World team. He later played in the U.S. Indoor League and All Star game. Brooks was inducted into the Section IV Hall of Fame in 1989.
