Kevin excelled in swimming and track and field during his tenure at Ithaca High School. In swimming, Kevin was named to the All-STAC team and also captained his team in 1975-1976. From 1974-1976, his team won the STAC Championships. In track and field, Kevin was named All-STAC, he was a Section IV Champion pole vaulter and a STAC Champion pole vaulter, all in 1976. Also that year, Kevin was a top 6 state finalist in pole vaulting.

Kevin went on to swim and pole vault at SUNY Cortland, where he was a SUNY conference Champion in both pole vaulting and the 500-yard freestyle in swimming. He was also named NCAA Division III All-American in both sports in 1979, 1980. Kevin is currently the head swim coach at Ithaca College, and he has been there since 1988. He is the winningest swim coach in Ithaca College history, with a record of 312-75. He was named Upstate New York Swim Coach of the Year in 2001, 2004, and 2012. He also holds 11 Empire 8 titles, and he served as Chairman of the Empire State Games in swimming for 10 years.
