Longtime IHS Swimming Coach Roy Staley ('07 Inductee), invited Freshman Terri to join the all boys swim team in the fall of 1971 because it would provide her with a level of competition not available on the girls' team. Terri accepted and spent the next four years winning races.

As a Sophomore, Terri swam primarily freestyle sprints and relays. In the Section IV Championships, Terri lead the 400 Free relay team to a first place finish and record time qualifying for Intersectionals.

As a Junior, she was part of the team that beat Vestal for the first time ever, breaking their string of 64 wins. The team went undefeated that year and beat powerhouse Liverpool to finish the year ranked 2nd in the state.

And as a Senior, her consistently strong finishes added crucial points for the team victories for a third undefeated season. Although her times set IHS Girl's Swimming pool records and qualified her for Academic All-American, no recognition was bestowed upon her due to the fact that the record times were set competing against boys.

Terri was the first female to compete and earn a Varsity letter all four years on a boy's swim team in New York State.
